With kids in south Tenerife, when it rains
It rains on few days a year in south Tenerife, but when it does the problem is always the same: children full of energy and the beach ruled out. Four plans work indoors: a covered play centre, a shopping centre with a cinema, the submarine at Marina San Miguel and, if you do not mind driving, the museums up north.
A covered play centre
The most direct plan with younger children: they properly tire themselves out and you get to sit down.
POP EAT is in central Adeje, fully indoors and air conditioned. Only the child pays, 5 € for half an hour and 7 € for an hour, and parents come into the café free with the children in full view. No booking needed. We close on Wednesdays.
A shopping centre with a cinema
Siam Mall, in Costa Adeje, puts shops, restaurants and a cinema under one roof. It carries a whole afternoon without stepping outside, and works best with older children.
The submarine at Marina San Miguel
Going down in a real submarine and watching the seabed through the windows is the kind of plan a child remembers. It is at Marina San Miguel, in the south, and the rain above hardly matters.

If you do not mind driving
The Museum of Science and the Cosmos, in La Laguna, is hands-on and fills half a day. It is up north, about an hour by car from Costa Adeje.
It makes sense when the rain is set in for the day: the north of the island tends to be cloudy exactly when the south is not.
What to put in the bag
- Socks: play areas require them, for children and adults alike
- A change of clothes: street puddles always find a way
- Nothing else, if the plan stays indoors

What can you do with small children in Adeje when it rains?
A covered play centre is the most direct plan for children up to 12: indoors, they properly tire themselves out and the parents sit down. At POP EAT entry is 5 € for half an hour and 7 € for an hour, and parents come in free.
Is POP EAT fully indoors?
Yes, the whole centre is covered and air conditioned. That is why a rainy day and a very hot day are when it works best.
Do we need to book when it rains?
No. A normal visit needs no booking, just come during opening hours. Only birthdays are arranged in advance.
Are you open every day?
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 16:00 to 21:00, and Saturday and Sunday from 11:00 to 21:00. We close on Wednesdays.
